Probably one of the most unintelligent, uniformed, and insulting blanket statements anyone could contrive about netlabel music (if he’s actually serious):

Comment from ANATOMY OF A PARODY (or satire) and WHY A PARODY OF A PARODY IS NEVER FUNNY:

“The fact is...99.9 percent of Net Label music is horrible and unlistenable. Anyone who tries to delude themselves into thinking any of it is good is a plain idiot...compare even the best Net Label music to any music in history and Net Label music always loses. This is because NL music is produced for the lowest common denominator (technologically and culturally) - this is why Net Label music is FREE - no one in their right mind would buy it.” [http://www.freesamplezone.org/hps.htm]

Yes, you are right...Benbenek is way out of line and should not be taken seriously especially among us in the Net Label community. If Net Labels are harrased by know-it-alls like Benbenek then we might as well give up and cow-tow to the rich record companies...yes? I stiil think we should all ignore Kurt Benbenek because it is a waste of time and we (I do) have more important work to do. I am starting a new Net Label soon...how do I go about posting mp3s into the Net Label sectio0n? THANKS? - Willy

Interesting how many good bands and artists of all sorts out there have no access to an audience. Commercial influences continually block off avenues so why not make the web open? Yes there is rubbish out there but I'd guess we don't all agree on the mainstream artists either. Long live a free net!!!
p.s.found expatsradio.com looking for new artists to interview last week and they even paly your music....must be more out there too.

Am not sure why people care so much about this Kurt Benbenek fellow. It seems as if he's a threat to many of us in the Net Label community, so the best thing would be to ignore him...don't feed the troll - responding to his remarks only gives them credibility and that's not what the Net Label community needs

Besides, I see not much of what Benbenek says to be that strange or outrageous, or maybe I'm not senstive enough - we'll see (>??)

Sir - if you so strongly disagree with Kurt Benbenek's opinions, then why do you re-post them here in this open forum? It seems if Benbenek were wrong then you would just ignore his comments and carry on with your life's work? No?

Te last time I checked, people are entitled to opinions (about Net Labels or dog food) - please dig deep and make ammends with your spirit - yes, the Net Label phenomenon is nice, but not worth giving up the free speech- - DJ Cleavon

I was simply responding to a statement that I firmly believe to be inaccurate and irresponsible, not challenging his freedom to express an opinion. Besides, freedom of speech is not a one-way street.

No, you are wrong...freedom of speech BEGINS with the individual...in other words, it IS a one-way street...until it turns into a dialogue. How interesting.

That's my point - the freedom to respond (establish a dialogue) is an inherent part of freedom of speech.

Freedom of speech CAN be a one-way street, especially when most others don't see that the emperor (Net Labels) is wearing no clothes (are dull and pathetic overall)

Yes? This is Tony in Israel...bye bye

Ive stepped in late to this argument, but I dont see how Benbenek is being "irresponsible" by expressing his opinion.
I've been following his site on the web since 1998 and his is one of the most responsible and uplifting around.

What MAY be irresponsible is the cookie-cutter dull disco that masquerades as "cutting edge Net Label music" - irresponsible Net Label owners should be held liable for reducing the IQs of young listeners throughout the world. Net Labels have set music back at least 60 or 70 years (in terms of ingenuity and emotion)

Not sure if this is what your argument is all about...but I find it funny that you would call someone (K. Benbenek) irresponsible, when he is one of the web's best advocates for personal resposibily and creativity. You obviously are talking out the backside of your elbow....or something...must go, bye

I have also recently become attached to Houseplant Picture Studio and find it to be gratifying and very inspirational (especially choices of imbedded music and downloads)
- truly it is silly and futile to call someone "irresponsible" on a message board such as this. It looks like others have called Kurt a "Fascist" and other things. This is sad that you cannot see past the dirt on your own nose. I've nothing more to be said - MRS SF - (France)

from what I understand, Kurt Benbenek has started his own Net Label...and it's already a money-making venture (unlike many free sites online) - I don't see why there's so much unfair criticism of Kurt and his website, he's the last person we should be angry or upset with - from what I understand, he's attempting to push the internet beyond certain boundaries - and this is what we al need - love and peace - Marcy

I think Benbenek and the Houseplant company have done recordings, but not as a Net Label - - only terra-firma releases

When general blanket statements are made like his and yours ["What MAY be irresponsible is the cookie-cutter dull disco that masquerades as 'cutting edge Net Label music' - irresponsible Net Label owners should be held liable for reducing the IQs of young listeners throughout the world. Net Labels have set music back at least 60 or 70 years ..."] without offering any supporting evidence that's being 'irresponsible" (or rash/careless or whatever synonym you want to use).

This all seems quite upsetting for you - are you secure in what you do musically, or must you always look to others for direction? If you were truly responsible, you would tend to your own business and not to Chenard Walcker's - Chenard seems to be taking care of the Benbenekk business very well on his own

That's our big problem these days, so many want to insert their own opinions into everyone else's business. Chenard Walcker should not be placed into this category

I think the "supporting evidence" is the fact that you refuse to admit that Net Labels (in general) are over-rated and that the music (generally) is not very good...you seem to have blinders on. Do you actually play Net Label music in your car and walkman?? If you do, then you are a masochist...plain and simple.

All the musical progress of the past 50 years has been washed away in a few years by well-intentioned (yet untalented) Net Label samplers and non-musicians...ie: DJs and mixologists. If you can't see for yourself that music today is regressing more and more into unintelligence, violence and meaningless, then...well, I don't know what. At least our friend Benbenek is saying different things and not sticking to the boring party line.
How many more Drum 'n' Bass mega-mixes do we need?...none - MARCY
